Organic materials, such as straw, wood, energy crops and agricultural waste are used as a feedstock to produce heat using combustion. The technology is well proven and has wide spread applications from small-scale domestic levels, through to large-scale industrial uses.

Advantages

· Technology available.
· Proven applications.
· Could be part of the development's waste management strategy.
· Widespread applications from domestic to industrial installations.

Limitations

Few but feedstock supply and emissions need to be considered.

Costs

In the range of £150-200 per Kw installed compared with £40 - £50 per Kw installed for natural gas. However fuel costs are two thirds those of natural gas.

Applications

Any domestic, industrial or commercial application.
