The following analysis is an initial assessment of the technologies available. The ranking of the technologies with regard to their suitability for the proposed develop should be considered as a staring point for further investigation.

Current Commercial Technologies

The following technologies, in the author's opinion, could be considered as generally commercially viable without the need for any additional measures being taken. It assumes that all financial support incentives that are available will be drawn upon:-

· Industrial and Commercial Biomass Heating (particularly if part of the feed stock can be provide from refuse derived fuel or clean waste).
· Large Scale Wind.
· Micro Gas Turbines (requires further investigation).
· Small scale natural gas fired CHP (where an annual balanced heat load requirement exists)
· Solar water and space heating (needs to be considered in an overall "heating options" study).
· Rain Water Harvesting.

Potential Commercial Technologies

The following technologies, in the author's opinion, could be commercially viable if additional measures were taken to ensure the technology was optimised within the development.

· Biomass Combined Heat and Power.
o Requires a study into emerging technologies.
o Requires a plan to maximise the use of heat.
· Large scale natural gas fired CHP
o Requires a plan to maximise heat
o Requires heat intensive enterprises.
· Buildings Integrated PV and Wind hybrid systems
o Need to replace or partially replace expensive building materials
o Need to attract grant subsidies.
· PV and Wind Hybrid systems for special application.
o Required for remote power (e.g. avoided cost of cabling, bus shelters, road signs etc.)
· Grey Water Recycling
o Requires a study of water disposal options.
· Reed Bed Sewage Treatment
o Requires a study of available land

Added Value Technologies

The following technologies, in the author's opinion, are not commercial but could provide added value (real or perceived) by the end user.

o Domestic applications of PV
o Domestic biomass heating
