Mike Eyre was one of the founders of Hitec Energy and has been working with the company for 3 years. He has also been involved with the Independent Power Corporation Plc since July 2001 and has recently been appointed Head of Engineering. He is both a Chartered and European Engineer and has extensive experience in the power sector.

As a CEGB engineer, he spent part of his early career on secondment to Eskom with responsibility for maintenance of a portfolio of 26 power plants. This was followed by secondment to NTPC India, China Light and Power and Northern Ireland Electric, working on all technologies of power generation and transmission assets. He subsequently became Head of Engineering Quality with National Power, where he developed and implemented policy for risk management of their UK assets as well as leading the technical due diligence for significant international acquisitions such as Hub, a 1,200 MW oil fired plant in Pakistan and Marmara, a 500MW CCGT in Turkey. Mike developed a strategic alliance between National Power Plc and Lloyd's Register and went on to lead business development at Lloyds Register power division.

During his work with Lloyd's Register Mike was requested by Maurice Strong (UN Secretary General of Rio Earth Summit and Kyoto Protocol) to develop the initial drafting of the verification systems in support of Emissions Trading, JI and CDM, presenting a paper at the UN workshop COP 5, Bonn.Mike co-ordinated the development of a global bio-fuels business plan for ABB (Europe's largest technology company at the time). He continues his participation in the development of a wide range of renewable energy projects acting as a Board Member for number of renewable energy companies and non-governmental organizations.

Mike has presented a number of papers at international conferences on the subjects of the cost of (poor) quality, emissions trading, and renewable energy developments, and acted as Chairman of the Asia Power Summit held in London. He is a member of a number of UK Government power sector working groups.
