Rainwater is collected and stored before being pumped through filters into a storage tank within the property. Rainwater is normally used for all applications with the exception of drinking water and food preparation.

Grey water systems take bath, shower and basin water and pump it directly into gardens and other water treatment areas.

Advantages

· Reduction of water and sewage charges.
· Reduction of water and sewage infrastructure costs.

Limitations

· Housing of storage tanks required.
· Small additional maintenance and operating costs.

Costs

· Estimated cost: less than £,2000 per installation, dependent on size.
· Taking into account avoided water and sewage charges the pay back period would be in the order of 5 years.
· There could be further savings to the developer with a reduction in water and sewage infrastructure needs.

Applications

All domestic, industrial and commercial properties.
